Remedy Entertainment is well known for its thrilling action games; in recent times, they have worked on games like Control and Alan Wake Remastered. They have been in the industry for over two decades and have produced many classics. One of their dormant franchises, Max Payne, will now be making its way to modern platforms, with Max Payne 1 and 2 Remakes officially announced for PC, Xbox Series S|X, and PlayStation 5.

The announcement took the industry by surprise. In a press release, Remedy Entertainment announced that they would be collaborating with Rockstar Games to bring the first two Max Payne games to life on modern consoles and PCs. The games will now be remade using Remedy’s newest engine, also used in Control. It is also interesting that Rockstar didn’t go the GTA trilogy route with Max Payne but chose to give these games the complete. Entire remake treatment instead. Perhaps, the negative feedback from the trilogy had something to do with that.

Speaking on the upcoming project, Founder of Rockstar Games., Sam Houser, said, “We were thrilled when our long-time friends at Remedy approached us about remaking the original Max Payne games.” He further said that the team at Rockstar is a huge fan of Remedy’s works and is excited to play the newer versions. Remedy CEO Tero Virtala also shared his thoughts on the new venture. He said, “Max Payne has always held a special place in the hearts of everyone at Remedy, and we know the millions of fans worldwide feel the same.”

The development of the games will be a cooperative effort. While Rockstar will finance the project, Remedy will handle the development of the games. We would expect a complete AAA remake for the games based on the press release. The remakes are also in the concept development stage, so Remedy is looking to take its time with the project.

The Max Payne games were seen as revolutionary in the bullet time genre back in the day. To this day, many have fond memories of the games. The remakes will also likely introduce a whole new generation of players to this iconic franchise while catering to older fans at the same time. Though the remakes are probably a few years away at the very least, players can still check out the original Max Payne to get a taste of the classic before the remake arrives. Remedy fans have a lot to look forward to with the upcoming remakes and the Alan Wake sequel.
