Several large corporations actively seek to acquire video game companies to broaden their IP portfolio as much as possible and establish their brand in the gaming industry.

One of the top corporations in that field is Microsoft, which opted to purchase the enormous giant Activision Blizzard for a staggering $68.7 billion some while ago. However, since then, Microsoft has encountered numerous problems.

Major corporations like Sony and Google are not happy with the deal. Because the acquisition is so massive, regulators worldwide are carefully examining it, which has been a big issue for Microsoft.

It looks like things might be easing off for Microsoft, as Serbia has joined Saudi Arabia and Brazil unconditionally, approving the Microsoft Activision Blizzard transaction.

Xbox Activision Blizzard Acquisition

The acquisition was initially scheduled to close in the first half of 2023, but since then, Microsoft has encountered several problems, potentially delaying the date the deal is finalized. The approval has been delayed in Australia and Japan. The US has to decide by the end of this month, the UK has 4 months to do so, and China has to decide by June 2023.

Sony is working hard to prevent the Activision Blizzard agreement because they believe Microsoft will benefit significantly from it and become a massive threat to them. However, Microsoft has rejected any threat to competitors and is willing to enter a long-term partnership with Sony.

In addition, it has also been revealed in Microsoft’s CMA document recently that Activision titles won’t be included in any subscription services if the Microsoft deal fails, which has saddened many Xbox and PC fans.

We don’t know the outcome of this deal, but we hope for the best. This is the limited information we have for now, but we will be looking for more news regarding this Microsoft and Activision Blizzard deal in the future.
