MSI Skipping RX 7900 Series Reference Variants, Will Only Lunch Custom Design Graphics Cards

MSI Will Not Launch RX 7900 Series Graphics Cards Until Q1 2023

MSI is still in the dark, unlike Sapphire, Asus, and Gigabyte, who have already released custom variants of the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT and 7900 XTX. The Taiwanese company has yet to show us its custom variants for Radeon RX 7900 series.

According to reliable source Andreas Schilling, MSI will launch only custom variants of the AMD Radeon 7900 XT and 7900 XTX, and the company is planning to launch new graphics cards in Q1 2023.

Furthermore, MSI will also be skipping selling reference variants that AMD is supplying to all its custom board partners.

It should not surprise anyone that MSI will also launch custom variants for the AMD Radeon 7900 series, as the company has been doing so since Polaris. But maybe MSI is still working on something different this year, perhaps a complete redesign for its custom cooler like the Gaming X Trio and Supreme version for the AMD Radeon 7900 series.

Regarding specs, the AMD Radeon 7900 XT comes equipped with 84 compute units, 20 GB of VRAM, and a boost clock of 2 GHZ running on a total board power of 300W.

While its bigger brother, the Radeon 7900 XTX, comes equipped with 96 compute units and 24 GB of VRAM. The boost clock on the Radeon 7900 XTX is also higher at 2.3 GHz, while the board power is 55W higher than Radeon 7900 XT and will consume 355W.

AMD has surprised many with their RDNA3 architecture that brings a lot of improvements and performance gains over RDNA2, not to mention support for the latest AV1 encoding support. Furthermore, the new architecture also offers better Ray Tracing support that is quite close to RTX 3000 series from Nvidia.

What are your thoughts on the MSI delay with the AMD Radeon 7900 series graphics cards this year?
