In August, we witnessed the Playstation 5 price hike. The price hike was a shock as many people were still trying to get their hands on the latest PlayStation. Still, it wasn’t surprising as Sony had no choice but to increase the prices given the current state of the world economy.

The US market was not affected by this change in price, but some regions were, such as Japan. In response to PlayStation increasing the costs by over 10% or more in some regions, Xbox decided not to increase the prices of their consoles. Microsoft said they constantly evaluate their business to offer their fans great gaming options.

But, not too long ago, in an interview, Phill Spencer hinted at the price hikes for Xbox Consoles and Game Pass. Phill talked about Xbox games, consoles, and game pass so that the price hike might include the three. Although, it is not surprising given the world economy.

Moreover, in August, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said in a statement that;

we currently do not have any plans to change the price of our hardware due to inflation or increased procurement costs in each country,”

But now it seems to be changed, as Takashi Mochizuki (reporter at Bloomberg) revealed that Nintendo has changed its stance and may increase the Switch prices in the future. Nintendo won’t take action for now, but with careful consideration and monitoring, they might increase the prices accordingly.

It was expected that Nintendo would hint at increasing the prices though they are still getting profit on each console sale, unlike PlayStation or Xbox consoles, where Phill revealed that they are losing $100 to $200 on each console sale.

On the other side, according to the quarterly earnings report, Nintendo sold over 114.4 million Switch units worldwide, earning $50 on each console sale, but given the crisis, none can be blamed.
