Starfield is confirmed to be an exclusive for Xbox Series S|X on consoles. While the game will be released on PC, PlayStation fans will not be able to enjoy Bethesda’s latest IP on their platform of choice.

However, Phil Spencer from Xbox has just confirmed that Starfield’s situation could have been reversed. According to the Xbox Head, PlayStation was looking to sign a deal for Starfield exclusivity.

Why it matters: PlayStation has been known for aggressive third-party exclusivity deals. Final Fantasy 16 is the latest example of such deals, with the blockbuster release being exclusive to PS5.

According to Microsoft’s latest hearing against the FTC, Phil Spencer confirmed suspicions of PlayStation’s plans for Starfield exclusivity.

Previously, a journalist claimed that he had heard similar information, but Phil Spencer’s claim confirms PlayStation’s intentions. However, Microsoft was keen to stop PlayStation this time.

The gaming giant has previously lost games like Final Fantasy 7 Remake to PlayStation. Recent games like Deathloop from Bethesda were also released as timed exclusives for the PS5.

Therefore, Microsoft decided to acquire Zenimax Media to stop such plans.

Recently, Xbox has faced backlash for Starfield’s exclusivity. The court hearings also confirmed that Indiana Jones from MachineGames will not be released on PS5.

However, Microsoft’s plan appears to have worked. Starfield looks extremely impressive and will likely motivate millions of users to subscribe to Game Pass. Following the recent impressive showcase, the game also managed to become the best-selling title on Steam.
