Sony has continued to see a lot of success with the PlayStation 5. Despite the continued struggle against supply shortages, the PlayStation 5 has led the competition in terms of highest dollar sales. The NPD group states,
Video game hardware unit sales were led by Nintendo Switch, while PlayStation 5 hardware generated the highest dollar sales in the second quarter.
Impressively, Nintendo continues to lead the race for console units. Not too long ago, the Nintendo Switch became Japan’s third best-selling console. The Nintendo Switch has been selling at an astounding rate, and the console is expected to overtake Sony’s PlayStation 4.
Currently, the games industry is going through a lighter period. Most releases are scheduled for the later part of the year or beyond. Big releases like God of War Ragnarok and Callisto Protocol are still a few months away.
The holidays are also fast approaching. This season typically has the most sales for the industry, and Sony has begun to increase production to prepare for the season.
