Unlike its bigger brother, the GeForce RTX 4080 from Nvidia didn’t receive the attention the 80s series card gets on launch. There could be many reasons behind its downfall, but the one that stands out is its price-performance ratio compared with GeForce RTX 4090.

The GeForce RTX 4080 is a good performing card for 4K gaming, but its price-to-performance offering is holding everyone back, which now comes at a premium.

According to foreign media, Nvidia might be planning to reduce the MSRP on the GeForce RTX 4080, and we might see a price cut in mid-December. The source also clarifies that the price cut on the GeForce RTX 4080 won’t compete against the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX; Nvidia is confident in its product and will only do so to adjust its price according to the performance it offers and to stimulate sales.

The low volume sales of the GeForce RTX 4080 have even affected scalpers who secured quantities in bulk, only to realize that it’s not the hot-selling card they were hoping for. One of the scalpers even tried to sell six units of RTX 4080 at MSRP. Furthermore, the GeForce RTX 4080 also saw a price cut of 5% in the European market.

The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti will be the next card in the Nvidia RTX 4000 series lineup. The card is expected to offer a better price-to-performance ratio than GeForce RTX 4080.

Hopefully, we might see performance similar to that of an RTX 3080 Ti with an attractive price. However, the only advantage it would have over the RTX 3000 series that are selling for much lower now is Nvidia Frame Generation.
