PC Is The Final Hope To Save PS VR2!

Story Highlight
  • PlayStation was working on PC compatibility for PS VR2 as early as February.
  • A new adapter has been spotted online that further hints at PC support.
  • With Sony’s upcoming State of Play, it could reveal more details before the end of May.

Sony’s PS VR2 was considered a highly ambitious second attempt at breaking into this market for PlayStation. The headset launched with impressive games like Gran Turismo and Horizon Call of the Mountain, but recent reports have painted a grim picture for the headset.

Earlier this year, Sony also confirmed PC support for the PS VR2. While the gaming giant has yet to provide an update, a recent listing has provided evidence for a certified adapter that would make the headset compatible with PCs.

Why it matters: Sony has reportedly given up on this headset. However, the PC platform’s preference for VR gaming could be PS VR2’s final chance for redemption.

PlayStation VR2 Is Held Back By A Small Library On PS5

The adapter was spotted through a filing in Korea. As shared by Brad Lynch, the device is dubbed the “PlayStation VR2 PC adapter.”

Since a filing has now shown, it won’t be long before this headset is compatible across PCs worldwide. It will also be interesting to see whether Sony will ship said adapter with future PS VR2 models.

Existing owners might need to buy the adapter separately, which could become a point of contention for users who enjoy switching back and forth between their PC and PS5. Still, Sony’s initial promise for the headset was always to support it on the console.

PlayStation has also announced a State of Play for May, confirming a focus on PS VR2. Therefore, with the filing appearing today, the gaming giant may officially announce PC compatibility during this live stream.

It is important to note that Sony’s headset may not support every game on PC out of the box. A few months ago, PlayStation confirmed that it was working on game compatibility for PS VR2.

Therefore, the headset will likely support a bigger library on PC than it did on PS5, though it may not be compatible with everything PC gamers want to play.
