81% Year On Year Increase!

The last few months have been extremely impressive for PS5 hardware sales. With continued interest from the public and an abundant supply of consoles, the latest PlayStation console has been selling like hotcakes.

Following several months of excitement this year, a new report states that PS5 sales have seen a massive 81% increase over last year in the UK.

Why it matters: Sony has big plans for the console, with the SIE CEO expecting it to cross 108 million sales over its lifespan.

This data compares sales between 2022 and 2023 for the first five months and highlights that the PlayStation console is doing much better than its rivals in the UK.

Compared to last year, the Xbox Series S|X sales are down by 19%, while the Nintendo Switch has lost 8% of its sales. However, the PS5 also appears to be slowly losing momentum, as it saw a 23% reduction in sales compared to April.

May marked an end to PS5’s streak as the best-selling console in the UK, with the Nintendo Switch taking the lead last month. However, the Nintendo Switch also saw a slight 5% reduction in sales compared to April.

Previously, the PS5 set a new record, shipping over 6 million consoles in Q1. It has also sold over 38 million units in total, leading to an excellent run in 2023 so far.
