Red Dead 2’s Braithwaite Manor Raid Mission Is Incredible To This Day

You Don't Mess With The Van Der Linde Gang!

Story Highlights
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 features several incredible story moments, but one event stands out the most.
  • Blood Feuds, Ancient and Modern is my favorite mission from the game.
  • The Van Der Linde gang unites to take down a large and rich family in the most cinematic way, with goosebumps throughout the sequence.

Red Dead Redemption 2 being in the Mount Rushmore of the best games of all time is not an unpopular opinion. The game is nearing its 60 million sales mark thanks to its impressive story mode and open world, which can still rival games of 2023 despite releasing five years prior.

With an open-world game like Red Dead Redemption 2, which features almost 60 hours of content, aside from the side missions and exploration in the Wild West, there are plenty of solid campaign missions, making it difficult to choose the best one.

While that debate may be tough, my pick as the best mission from the game is Blood Feuds, Ancient and Modern. For me, that mission is the gaming counterpart of the Taken movie by Liam Neeson.

Why it matters: While Red Dead Redemption 2 has missions like The Fine Joys Of Tobacco and Red Dead Redemption, none other play out as Blood, Feuds, Ancient, and Modern.

If there’s one lesson to be learned from playing Red Dead Redemption 2, it’s that, regardless of the situation, you don’t mess with the Van Der Linde gang. The Braithwaite family makes the same mistake in Chapter 3 of the game, and this is the point where the game really picks up in terms of action.

Upon discovering that John’s toddler son, Jack Marston, has been kidnapped by none other than the Braithwaite family, the entire gang assembles to march onto the manor and retrieve their young member.

The entire mission, from start to finish, is a rollercoaster filled with various action scenes. The gang’s march onto the manor has become an iconic scene in the game, and infiltrating the manor feels like a scene straight out of a movie.

The adrenaline rush can be felt from the screen, blasting away enemies just to enter the manor with an exhilarating soundtrack playing in the background. I never found another instance in Red Dead Redemption 2 aside from the epilogue where one feels as immersed in Arthur’s role.

Despite Jack not being present at the manor, the gang ends up burning down the house to make a statement about who they are dealing with, effectively ending the long-standing feud between the Grays and the Braithwaite.

After completing the mission, players can find Catherine Braithwaite’s burnt body among the remains, along with a lootable brooch and a chest of gold under the wreckage.
