Highly Ambitious Project For Dan Houser!

Story Highlight
  • Dan Houser, the original founder of Rockstar Games, is working on a new open-world game.
  • The game promises best-in-class combat with third-person gameplay.
  • Housers brings experience from IPs like Red Dead Redemption and GTA to this project.

Dan Houser, one of Rockstar Games’ co-founders, announced the opening of his new studio not too long ago. Houser announced Absurd Ventures last year after leaving Rockstar in 2020.

Now, this team is developing a new open-world game.

Why it matters: Houser was part of the company when it released mega hits like the Red Dead Redemption and GTA franchises. So, considering his experience, the new title could be quite massive for the industry.

Absurd Venture's job listing
Absurd Venture is looking for a game designer to work on an open-world game.

The new title was spotted through a job listing on Absurd Ventures’ official website. The studio seeks a ‘Lead Gameplay Designer’ who can work on an open-world action-adventure game.

Become the primary contributor for character, controls, and camera design in an open world game.

While the listing does not say much else, it does state that the title aims to deliver best-in-class combat and third-person action across multiple game modes. The team already has an excellent base to build on, having worked on similar games with Rockstar Games.

For instance, Max Payne 3 is often considered the best third-person shooter to date. Dan Houser played a large role in defining that combat system, so the developer may want to break new ground again.

Rockstar games
Dan Houser has worked at Rockstar Games for several decades.

In addition to the position of lead gameplay designer, the studio is looking to hire people for 6 other positions. This indicates that they want to kick off work on the title soon.

The game’s genre sounds a lot like GTA or Red Dead Redemption. Considering how great Rockstar Games was at creating such titles when Houser was part of the company, we don’t expect the team to disappoint.

Therefore, this project will be worth keeping an eye on.
