Gaming Benchmarks – 4K
We tested the newly launched RTX 4070 Super vs the legendary RTX 3090 in six popular video games at 4K resolution to evaluate their performance in intense scenarios. The testing environment specifications that we used are given below.
Testing Rig
- CPU: AMD RYZEN 9 5950X
- RAM: 2×16 GB Patriot Viper LED DDR4-3600
- Storage: 2 TB CORSAIR MP600 Elite NVMe SSD
- PSU: Noctua NH L9A AM4
- CPU Cooler: ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 240 A-RGB
Cyberpunk 2077
- In this game, we saw that the RTX 4070 Super gave an average FPS of 59, approximately 5.36% higher, while the RTX 3090 gave 56 FPS.
- The 1% low FPS of the RTX 3090 was 47 FPS. Meanwhile, with newer architecture, the RTX 4070 Super managed to give only 28 FPS.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
- On higher settings, the RTX 4070 Super gave 81 FPS on average, and the RTX 3090 gave 66 FPS, approximately 22.73% lower, in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
- With the difference of 13 FPS, We saw that the 1% low FPS of the RTX 3090 was 51 FPS and 38 FPS of the other graphic card, the 4070 Super.
Red Dead Redemption 2
- While testing these GPUs in Red Dead Redemption 2, we noticed a 15.3% difference in average FPS, which were 91 for the 4070 and 78 for the 3090.
- Regarding 1% low FPS, the RTX 3090 showed 57 FPS, while the RTX 4070 showed 72 FPS. This difference of about 26% is almost double from average FPS difference.
Watch Dog Legion
- There was a negligible difference between the average FPS of both cards. The RTX 3090 was 67 FPS, while the Super was 66 FPS.
- However, regarding 1% low FPS, the 4070 Super and the RTX 3090 gave 58 FPS and 46 FPS, respectively.
Horizon Zero Dawn
- The average FPS of the newer card, the RTX 4070 Super, was 103, while the same of the older card was 94 FPS. The 4070 Super gave 9.57% higher FPS than the 3090.
- There was also a difference of approximately 8% in 1% low FPS of both cards, which were 74 FPS of the 3090 and 80 FPS of the 4070.
God Of War
- The last game we tested was God of War. In this, 85 and 73 average FPS were noticed of the RTX 4070 Super and the RTX 3090, respectively. The 3090 gave about 16.44% lower.
- 45 1% low FPS was noticed in the RTX 4060 Super while the 3090 gave higher if 61 FPS. This difference gave an edge to the 3090 for stable performance.
The significant performance leap between the RTX 3090 and the 4070 Super reignites discussions surrounding Moore’s Law, the observation that the number of transistors on a microchip doubles roughly every two years.
