2nd GOTY For Elden Ring?

Story Highlight
  • Shadow of the Erdtree, an expansion, has been nominated for the Game of the Year award.
  • Many were concerned that this would happen as TGA changed its policy to make DLCs eligible for the award just days before announcing nominees.
  • Now, fans think Shadow of the Erdtree will win the most prestigious award.

Just recently, The Game Awards updated its policy of making DLCs, expansions, remasters, and remakes eligible to be nominated for the Game of the Year Award. This caused a stir among fans, as many were concerned that Elden Ring would take away the award again. However, some actually wanted the DLC to be nominated.

To no one’s surprise, Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree has been nominated for the GOTY at TGA, so its chances of winning are pretty high now.

Why it matters: Fans were concerned that Elden Ring DLC would be nominated for the Game of the Year award and would dominate the competition.

Geoff Keighly has officially announced the nominees for the Game of the Year award 2024. The nominees include Astro Bot, Balatro, Black Myth: Wukong, Shadow of the Erdtree, and Metaphor: ReFantazio.

As of now, Shadow of the Erdtree seems to have the most chance of winning the GOTY award. Fans think the rules were changed a few days before the nominations were announced, just so the Elden Ring DLC could be nominated.

Elden Ring might just take away its second GOTY home which would undeniably set a precedent in gaming history. However, games like Black Myth: Wukong, Astro Bot, and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth aren’t going down without a fight, so it is going to be an intense competition this year.

Some fans might be disappointed not to see their favourite games on the list, but let’s hope the best game among the nominees wins.
