Last year, Jim Ryan announced his retirement after working for three decades at Sony. While Hiroki Totoki has been working as the CEO of PlayStation for the time being, it appears that Sony has finally found new names.

PlayStation has announced Hermen Hulst and Hideaki Nishino as the co-CEOs, with the two executives set to take up the helm in June.

The official website of Sony released a new blog confirming that the company is replacing Jim Ryan with two new CEOs.

Hideaki Nishino will be CEO of SIE’s Platform Business Group from June 1st. Since he currently works as a Senior Vice President of the Platform Experience Group, Nishino has a lot of experience with the role.

Sony says that Nishino will continue to be responsible for technology, products, services, and platform experience while also overlooking third-party publishers and developers’ relations.

Hermen Hulst currently works as Senior Vice President and Head of PlayStation Studios. Therefore, he will continue to overlook the first-party studios, using his experience overlooking these teams to continue making great games.

Following the official announcement, Hermen Hulst also thanked Sony for giving him this responsibility. He hopes to continue the PS5’s success and prepare for the future of Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Both of the CEOs have proved to be trustworthy to Sony, making them appropriate picks for the job. Sony also hopes that two CEOs will help make operations smoother since Jim Ryan was forced to travel frequently between Europe and the USA.

This is a first for Sony, so it remains to be seen if the approach with co-CEOs will work out. It is also important to note that both CEOs will report directly to Hiroki Totoki, likely continuing his vision of multiplatform gaming.
