Starfield To Receive Nvidia DLSS Through Mods On Day One

Modder To Save The Day!

Starfield from Bethesda Game Studios is one of the most crucial releases for PC users due to the unlimited possibilities through modding support. Unfortunately, the game is expected to skip DLSS after a recent partnership announcement between AMD and Bethesda.

Starfield is confirmed to support FSR, and users have recently dug through PC files, revealing no mentions of Nvidia DLSS or Intel XeSS. While this was disappointing for many, a modder claims to be bringing DLSS support to Starfield on release.

Why it matters: DLSS uses AI upscaling and produces a superior image than AMD FSR. DLSS 3 also provides the ability to boost performance through AI-generated frames.

The modder goes by the name Pure Dark and has previously released DLSS mods for various games. He has also been selected as a reviewer for Starfield and has already announced his intention to release a DLSS mod on September 1.

The fact that Pure Dark has received a review copy means that this process will be made even easier. As expected, the mod will include both DLSS 2 and DLSS 3. However, the latter will be reserved for owners of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4000 graphics cards due to hardware limitations.

Bethesda Game Studios is fully aware of the incredible modding communities that have kept games like Skyrim alive for over a decade. Therefore, the studio will likely be glad to see upscalers like DLSS being included through mods.

On the other hand, many are also hoping that Starfield does not become the latest example of a game that is too reliant on FSR for acceptable performance. The recently released Remnant 2 was designed with upscaling in mind and received plenty of criticism for this reason.

While the mod will be a massive step up over the lack of DLSS, it will not provide the same level of quality as Nvidia’s implementations. Nonetheless, something is better than nothing, and Pure Dark hopes to ensure that Nvidia users do not feel left out in Starfield.
