The Last of Us Part 1 Steam Deck Verification Is Not The Primary Concern For Now

Steam Deck Users May Have To Wait!

The Last of Us Part 1 was released last week for PC users. Following a disastrous launch, the game was bombarded with negative reviews on Steam and became Naughty Dog’s worst-rated game.

While the game didn’t meet its expectations, Naughty Dog promised swift improvements and patches to fix the issues. However, recent patches have done little to address the more significant problems, and the game has also been marked as unsupported for the Steam Deck.

Responding to these concerns, the developer has issued a new statement. Naughty Dog stated that the team is working on fixes before trying to get the game verified. Neil Druckmann also said that playability is the primary concern for Naughty Dog.

Naughty Dog’s co-president Neil Druckmann previously confirmed the game would make it to the Steam Deck. This hinted that the developer had always intended to support the game for the portable console, but the current circumstances make it challenging to aim for verification.

Issues like long shader compilation and frequent crashing have been improved in recent patches, but the Steam Deck’s lesser capabilities mean it will continue to be difficult to support The Last of Us Part 1 on the handheld.

The game is CPU limited on the handheld, making it challenging to improve frame rates even with lowered graphical settings. As such, the studio is focusing on fixing core issues with the PC port.

The next patch will be dropping on April 7 for PC users. Once the game is playable and most of the issues have been fixed, Naughty Dogs will look into the Steam Deck verification, but till then, the portable users might have to wait.
