Full of The Batman Arkham DNA!

Story Highlights
  • Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is finally arriving next month.
  • The game has been criticized for a live service approach, but Rocksteady does not agree with these responses.
  • The developer claims that the Batman Arkham DNA is still in the game.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has been in development for over seven years, and the developers delayed the game multiple times to ensure it meets fan expectations at launch.

However, the game has been criticized since fans learned about its live service elements, forcing Rocksteady to respond. Despite the departure from a single-player game, the studio claims the Batman Arkham DNA is still present in this title.

Why it matters: The Batman Arkham series is still considered the benchmark for modern superhero games, with Batman Arkham Knight showing next to no signs of age.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

During a recent interview with PLAY Magazine, the developers highlighted their approach to creating a live-service superhero game. Starting off, the Rocksteady developer was quick to point out the similarities to its previous Batman games. He said:

“It is still full of the DNA that infuses the Batman: Arkham series.”

The developer elaborated that Rocksteady wanted to make a four-player co-op game and spent a great amount of time refining the Suicide Squad to achieve the goals of four unique playable characters.

He further stated that the team did not want to limit itself to a specific genre. Instead, the focus was on creating a sense of flow in the gameplay, leading to a creative traversal system that adds to the melee and shooter combat.

Once these elements come together, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League presents a fun sandbox rarely seen in superhero games. Addressing the live service genre, he said:

“We don’t really think of our game as fitting with any particular label.”

From Rocksteady’s point of view, each player should be able to feel like a part of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and its global community.

Still, it is hard to deny that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League borrows a lot from modern live service titles.

Featuring elements like a battle pass, cosmetic gear, and more, the game is immediately reminiscent of Marvel’s Avengers. Fans can only hope that it does not end up meeting the same fate as the latter release.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will receive plenty of post-launch content for free. The game will also include paid content, expanding Rocksteady’s base universe for many months to come.

Finally arriving on 2 February for all the current-gen consoles and PCs, the game has just received numerous previews. Following five hours of hands-on time, the media has been able to share their thoughts about the game, criticizing many aspects of the superhero adventure.
