Fans Ridiculing Remaster After Comparisons!

Story Highlights
  • Naughty Dog’s trailer has showcased new footage captured from the PS5 version.
  • When compared side-by-side, fans on Twitter have struggled to tell the difference.
  • The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered will be released on 19 January.

After various rumors and reports, Naughty Dog has officially confirmed The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered. This version of the game is designed for the PS5, adding unique bonuses like a roguelike mode and Guitar Free Play.

However, on the visual side, the remaster does not appear to show many improvements. As seen in a side-by-side comparison, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered looks nearly identical to its PS4 counterpart.

Why it matters: One feature advertised for the remaster is ‘Graphical enhancements,’ but such comparisons show that there is little difference between the two versions of this game.

Fans on Twitter are already comparing Naughty Dog’s recently revealed remaster, claiming that it should not be called one. Judging by the two images, it is hard to tell which one is captured on PS5.

If you are confused like us, the one on the bottom is from the PS5 version. Fans are also struggling to tell the two versions apart, claiming that Naughty Dog has added a simple color filter to the game.

Others have resorted to sarcasm, stating that The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is a massive step up over the original game.

This disappointment is further amplified because the game already looked so good on PS4. It also ran at 60FPS on the PS5 through the PS4 Pro version, making this remaster pointless for many.

Given the fact that Naughty Dog spent at least one year on this remaster, the results seem extremely disappointing. Fortunately, existing owners of the PS4 version can upgrade to the remaster for just $10.

The Last of Us Part 1 received similar reactions when the studio announced it would remake the first game in 2022. However, Part 1 was a complete remake compared to this remaster.

Nonetheless, more subtle differences between the remaster and its original release will soon become apparent. The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is coming out on 19 January, so more testing will be conducted in just over a month.

For some, more content from The Last of Us is enough to justify another purchase. However, for the more skeptical fans, it might be worth looking into the PS4 upgrade for a cheaper purchase.
