100K Dislikes On The Trailer In 20 Hours!

Story Highlights
  • The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered was announced yesterday.
  • This announcement has been negatively received because of the lack of major enhancements and Naughty Dog’s insistence on remastering a very recent game.
  • YouTube users have left nearly 100K dislikes to show their resentment toward this remaster.

Naughty Dog is bringing a new game to the PS5 in 2024. While it might not be the most exciting release in the world, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is the latest addition to its catalog, introducing new features to this critically acclaimed title.

As the remaster of a three-year-old game, this release appears to show minimal improvements in the visual department. Since remasters are typically associated with superior graphics, this similarity has become quite controversial.

Adding to this controversy, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is being dislike-bombed on YouTube.

Why this matters: In the past, games like Prince of Persia and Red Dead Redemption went through a similar wave of dislikes, highlighting the community’s dissatisfaction with various aspects of these games.

At the time of writing, the trailer on the official PlayStation channel has over 50K likes. However, this number is countered by 70K dislikes gathered in 20 hours.

Popular channels like IGN and Gamespot have also uploaded the trailer on YouTube, collecting 24K and 4.6K dislikes, respectively. Adding these numbers, the trailer has nearly 100K dislikes across these three channels alone.

As a studio, Naughty Dog was considered PlayStation’s best developer after it introduced ground-breaking franchises like Uncharted and The Last of Us to the gaming giant’s first-party library.

However, since 2020, the studio has put out three re-releases. Following the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection and The Last of Us Part 1, this remaster is Naughty Dog’s third re-release.

Counting ports on PC, the number of re-releases goes up to five. Meanwhile, the studio is struggling to complete its already-announced standalone multiplayer game based on The Last of Us franchise.

This, along with the fact that audiences are exhausted with the trend of remasters of recent games, appears to be the primary reason for the dislikes.

Comments on The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered Trailer

In the comments section, YouTube users are ridiculing the fact that PlayStation appears to be remastering games that are still very recent. However, the saving grace of this remaster could be PlayStation’s decision to offer a $10 upgrade.

While we believe this type of project does not bring many benefits for a game that can hardly be considered dated, the $10 upgrade for owners of the PS4 version should make it less of a disappointment.

We can only imagine the outrage if this upgrade was not part of Naughty Dog’s release on 19 January.

While its visuals might be disappointing, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered boasts a slew of new content, including new modes, playable characters, cut content, and more. This may satisfy die-hard fans of this franchise, but the masses appear to be upset with this announcement.
