PS5 Pro Pre-orders Are Suffering Due To High Price Tag

Still Not Sold Out In The UK And US!

Story Highlight
  • PS5 Pro sales in both the UK and the US seem to be suffering due to the high price tag.
  • The Pro console costs $700 for digital only, making it a poor value for money.
  • The PS5 Pro is still available to pre-order on PlayStation Direct, which is unusual for a new release.

PlayStation 5 Pro has been a topic of controversy ever since it was announced. The massive $700 price for an incremental upgrade hasn’t sat well with the fans. This shows from sales as the PS5 Pro still hasn’t managed to sell out in either the UK or the US

Why it matters: Consoles are supposed to deliver the best value for gaming. However, owing to the PS5 Pro’s high price it isn’t the best value for money.

PS5 Pro is still available to pre-order on PlayStation Direct

Usually, when a new Sony console launches, sales are so high that it sells out quickly. But that doesn’t seem to be the case for the PS5 Pro, as it can still be pre-ordered on the PlayStation Direct site.

What makes the situation even more strange is that scalpers aren’t even going after the PS5 Pro. When the base version launched, it retailed for scalped prices for a very long time. However, part of the reason was the ongoing pandemic as well.

PS5 Pro has been under fire for inflated price tag

But, overall, the PS5 Pro doesn’t seem to be attracting too much of an audience. This makes sense too, considering it isn’t a huge upgrade over the regular one. It does have a beefed-up GPU, but testing has proved that performance isn’t too different from the earlier model

So, the PS5 Pro makes more sense for people who are new to the console. The upgrade path isn’t too suitable as you’d be getting a mostly similar console for a lot more price. Granted the 2TB SSD on the Pro is a nice upgrade

If this continues and the sales don’t pick off, this could be a worrying sign for Sony. But it would be better for the consumers as this means we can expect nice discounts and availability of the Pro console around the holiday period.
