Why Fully Modded Assetto Corsa Is The Best Racing Game Ever

Expert Verified By

If you came across a highly realistic driving game anywhere, It's prolly a modded Assetto Corsa...

Story Highlights
  • Assetto Corsa has mods for racing tracks, real-life highways, and custom circuits, so you can drive anywhere.
  • It also consists of over 7,000 vehicles, with each having mechanics replicating the real-life version of it.
  • The smallest of the details can be changed, including the weather, the sky, and the traffic – which makes it the best racing game.

It’s been almost 10 years since Assetto Corsa was released, but it wasn’t as appreciated as it is today. This is purely because of the heavy rise in its modded community, which has taken the the boring base game to a whole new level.

Arcade Vs. Simulators

Arcade

The racing games are divided into two categories: Arcade and Simulators. Arcade games focus on providing the best visuals using the best vehicles; in short, it makes you feel like you’re a protagonist driving a car in a Hollywood action movie.

These games also have easy-to-learn controls, and the physics is also exaggerated, which means colliding with a wall at high speed doesn’t have much impact.

These games often feature an exaggerated visual style, vivid colors, and beautiful scenery to provide the ultimate spectacle while driving. They include the NFS series, the Forza Horizon series, the Crew series, and the Forza Motorsports series, which is now dead.

Simulators

Simulator games focus on realism over anything. Assetto Corsa is purely a racing simulator with its aim to provide an extremely realistic driving experience. This means you have to drive as realistically, and collisions result in penalties.

Assetto Corsa’s physics engine is renowned for its accuracy, as every vehicle has a different handling, and you can feel it. This is why it requires skill and precision to master the game’s physics if you’re switching from arcade games.

Customization & Mods

Now that you know the difference between arcade and simulator games, let’s discuss Assetto Corsa. But we can’t talk purely about Assetto’s base game because it is terrible. It lacks depth, there are limited vehicles, and the game isn’t even open-world, to begin with.

Extensive Modding Community

The community saw the potential to modify it to give it a completely different outlook and created a website called Assetto World. Here, modders from around the world expand the game with mods to this day, even after 10 years of this game’s release.

Many popular mods receive regular updates, with the latest updates only four days old (at the time of writing this article). This shows that the community works together like an official company works on its games.

No two modded Assetto Corsa games can look the same. This is the level of modding this game has. Also, most mods are free for the community to enjoy. However, people are making a living out of the paid mods because of how much they sell.

Racing Tracks

Since the game was limited in nature, Assetto Corsa goes well beyond what its developers initially intended. Now, the game is riddled with community-generated racing circuits from around the world.

The modding community has also added routes and highways from real life, such as California highways. Moreover, the community has made custom tracks for you to enjoy different locations. We have a total of around 1K track mods.

Vehicles

While the base game consists of hardly 200 cars (only 178), the modded vehicles can have more than 7,000 vehicles, which is still increasing. Not to mention, these cars are fully functional, with the specifications mentioned in their details.

Weather, UI & Other Small Details

The mods don’t stop there; they branch out to the tiniest details. Even the hanging car air freshener has its own physics and dangles with the car’s movement. The interiors of each car are designed precisely to replicate the vehicles in real life.  These realistic graphics mods are one of the highest-rated mods for this game.

Furthermore, the weather can be fully changed to whatever you want. You can also change the AI of the traffic so they can respond in the way you like.

Better With A Steering Wheel

With these mods, racing in the traffic feels more fun and real because of the smoother physics each car arrives with. The drifting is also much better than other games and feels more fluid.

You expect to get tons of vehicles and tracks from a racing game, and the modded version has it all. All of these mods enhance the game, causing it to break its concurrent player records after 10 years. With these mods’ many options, you never get bored of the game.
