- GTA 5 attracts gamers and non-gamers alike because it focuses more on fun than realism, unlike GTA 4.
- The map in GTA 5 is more vast than that in GTA 4, providing more side activities and attractive areas than its predecessor.
- GTA Online is also a big reason why GTA 5 got more successful.
The Grand Theft Auto franchise has been around for more than two decades. During this time, the franchise rose to the top with the memorable games it produced.
Two of the highlighting games are GTA 4 and GTA 5, and they are also compared too much in terms of realism, story, and fun elements. Regardless of which game is better, it’s no surprise that GTA 5 was the more successful one.
GTA 5 Is More Inclined Towards The Fun Element
The success of GTA 5 lies in many things, one of which is the game’s focus on fun instead of realism. The toned-down realism gave birth to more enjoyable driving and other things that make the game fun.
Compared to GTA 4, the driving is less realistic but for the greater good. Driving a car in GTA 4 gives you a bit of a simulation effect, as the car handling is complex.
In GTA 5, handling has been made very easy, removing the simulation effect from the driving and ultimately making it less realistic.
As a result, the player is less likely to accidentally hit other cars, building corners, and street lights while driving, which makes a huge difference and makes driving less frustrating.
Many players would prefer the driving in GTA 4 for realism, but if we consider the casual and non-casual gamers combined, the correct type of driving to include in your game would be the one anyone can enjoy.
Another thing that makes driving in GTA 5 less realistic and more fun is the ability to control the movement of your vehicle while airborne. This can never be done in real life, but including this feature has boosted the driving experience.
GTA 5 Has More Side Activities, Vehicles, And Some Extra Features
GTA 5 also has many more fun activities, like tennis, sky diving, hunting, racing, triathlons, golf, darts, tons of side missions, and more, compared to GTA 4. GTA 4 also had some excellent activities, like bowling, snooker, and arcade games, but these activities were fewer.
These activities may not play a massive role in making GTA 5 more successful than GTA 4, but these small elements make the game replayable for longer. Moreover, the mini-games or side activities in GTA 5 are a lot more fun. I found bowling in GTA 4 boring.
In GTA 5, you can also go underwater via a submarine or swimming, which is impossible in the prequel. The underwater world also has some side missions that explore different ocean areas. There’s also a lot more variety of vehicles in GTA 5. Speaking of which, the lack of airplanes in GTA 4 is also disappointing.
The Successor Comes With A Much Vast Map
The map is another thing that highly differentiates the two games. GTA 4’s map is mainly based on deep city vibes containing buildings, and that’s pretty much it. On the other hand, in GTA 5, you get a city, beaches, mountains, and deserts.
Not only are they part of the map, but you can also do several activities in these areas of the maps. There are trails for bike riding in the mountains, off-road races in the desert, cycling and triathlons on the beaches, and more.
In GTA 4, the city has been made well as a representation of New York City, but all you can do is roam in it with little to do. In short, GTA 5 has a more vast map.
The Online Support For GTA 5 Is A Game Changer
Out of everything we have discussed so far, the one thing that played the most significant role in making GTA 5 successful over its predecessor is the game’s online mode, GTA Online.
If Rockstar hadn’t provided an online mode for the game, GTA 5 would have never reached its current level. GTA Online contains tons of extra content apart from the base game, including multiplayer heists, races, missions, and more that have kept the players grinding this game for over a decade.
GTA 4’s online mode never received this much attention from Rockstar, which is one reason it falls so far behind GTA 5’s success. The fantastic story and attention to detail were some departments where GTA 4 thrived.
Still, Rockstar’s altered approach, prioritizing” fun” in the series sequel, attracted more players and made it more successful.
