Phantom Liberty Devs To Join Witcher Team Too!

A while back, CD Projekt Red announced the beginning of a brand-new Witcher trilogy, which will kick off with the upcoming mainline Witcher Game, codenamed Polaris. The Witcher 4 will pave a new path for several years of content.

It has already been in pre-production since May 2022, and the development team for the game also saw an increase recently. A few months later, CD Projekt Red CEO Adam Kicinski has revealed:

“The Polaris team has grown to almost 260 developers at the end of July.”

Why it matters: The Witcher 3 is deemed one of the best RPGs of all time, and since its release, it has sold more than 50 million copies. As a result, anticipation for the next mainline game is at an all-time high.

The CEO continued by saying that the Phantom Liberty team is at its largest for now, consisting of around 300 developers. However, the CEO confirmed this will soon change and said:

“After releasing Phantom Liberty, we will transfer a big part of the team to Polaris.”

This implies that CD Projekt Red will devote a majority of its attention to The Witcher 4 after the release of Phantom Liberty, making the team for the next Witcher project the largest at the studio.

The Witcher 3 is still considered an exemplary open-world RPG, and it will be exciting to see what comes next from the team as CD Projekt Red has always been known to push the boundaries of engaging narratives and stories.

The studio is switching to Unreal Engine 5 and has more experience with RPG games after Cyberpunk 2077, which leads to even more exciting possibilities for its next release.

On that note, a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 has also been confirmed.

While The Witcher 4 is still several years away, CD Projekt Red is gearing up to release the Phantom Liberty expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 next month.

The expansion is slated for release on September 26, and the studio will immediately divert its attention to the Witcher IP once the DLC has been released.
