On Track To Meet Goal With Starfield In 2023!

Xbox has not shipped many first-party titles in recent years, but Microsoft recently claimed that Starfield is just the starting gun for Microsoft’s first-party portfolio, with many big releases planned over the generation.

Discussing the future of Xbox, Phil Spencer recently hinted that Xbox plans to ship 4 first-party titles every year.

Why it matters: Xbox has wanted to deliver at least four first-party titles annually for many years. However, 2023 marks the first time it appears to be feasible for the gaming giant.

Xbox Starfield

During a recent interview with IGN, Phil Spencer was reminded that Matt Booty wanted Microsoft to release a new first-party title every three months. The Xbox CEO was then asked if Microsoft was ready to meet this goal.

Replying to this question, Phil Spencer pointed to games like Hi-Fi Rush, Minecraft Legends, and Redfall. This already marks three first-party releases in 2023, even if Redfall ended up disappointing for the most part.

In September, Starfield will add another first-party title to Microsoft’s list of 2023 games, and Forza Motorsport will conclude the lineup. Therefore, Xbox has already achieved this aspiration in 2023.

Looking ahead to the future, Phil Spencer said:

“We have talked about it as an aspiration, now we talk about it as our plan.”

Xbox Game Pass

On the subject of first-party games, Phil Spencer has also claimed that Microsoft’s future output is big enough that it may require multiple gaming events each year, as opposed to the current trend of one major showcase each year.

Looking at a few of the future games, Hellblade 2, Avowed, and Fable are expected to enhance Microsoft’s offerings for the Xbox Series S|X titles. Others like Towerborne should also ensure that Microsoft is able to ship four first-party titles each year.

While frequent releases may raise concerns about compromised quality, Microsoft will balance the release windows with careful consideration. The gaming giant has already shown a willingness to delay games if they require time for polish.
