COD Games Driving Xbox Sales!

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 recently saw a massive resurgence with over 10K players. Similarly, various older Call of Duty games have also seen a resurgence thanks to an update, fixing the games for consoles like the Xbox Series S|X.

Microsoft’s backward compatibility allows these games to be played on modern consoles. Following the recent popularity of Call of Duty, many gamers appear to be rushing out to buy Xbox consoles.

According to various reports, Xbox Series S|X consoles are sold out in various parts of the world.

Why it matters: Backward compatibility provides a unique advantage to Xbox consoles over PlayStation. The popularity of older Call of Duty games is undeniable, which appears to be the main reason for the recent surge in console sales.

As seen above, Ben reports that the Xbox Series X has been selling extremely fast in the UK, as it is out of stock nearly everywhere.

Additionally, CharlieIntel reports similar information about the consoles. The Twitter account is known to cover Call of Duty updates and has been proven to be a reliable source of information.

According to CharlieIntel, Xbox Series S|X consoles have become much harder to find after the recent resurgence of older Call of Duty games.

Xbox has recently won the case against the FTC, and the gaming giant is gearing up to complete its $68.7 billion purchase of Activision Blizzard.

This is expected to be the reason for the recent update to Call of Duty, as the gaming giant prepares to offer these titles on Xbox Game Pass.

Other sources report that Xbox Series S|X sales on Amazon have seen an increase of about 84%, but this has not been confirmed.

Nonetheless, Microsoft is likely pleased with the recent positivity around Xbox and Call of Duty. This could also motivate the gaming giant to support other older games from Activision.

In addition to the older games, the franchise is gearing up to release Modern Warfare 3 in November. An official reveal for the new game is expected in August.
